Waterway Notices / Gloucester & Sharpness Canal & River Severn, Gloucester Lock 2 to Haw Bridge

Please be advised that from Friday 25th September 2026 navigation through Gloucester Dock will be closed due to low water levels and continuing siltation, ahead of the dredging campaign commencing from 5th October 2026. The Trust is urgently reviewing the size and scope of this campaign to account for the increased siltation in the Docks   This closure is earlier than planned due to the channel depths reducing with fewer boats navigating through and as a consequence, we are unable to guarantee the depth of the navigation channel.   Customers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and avoid Gloucester Docks.

Please take this opportunity if you need to move through or out of the Dock ahead of this closure.   Customers seeking to remain in Victoria Basin over winter will be unable to leave via the Dock until a safe channel has been achieved through the dredging programme.   We are unable to confirm when the Dock will re-open and the timing of reopening will be dependent on the scale of the dredging campaign and available water levels. We will however, update as soon as possible.   We apologise for the inconvenience caused during this period.   Your support and understanding are greatly appreciated as we take essential steps to maintain safety.
