Navigation will be restricted at Barrow Deep Lock 51 to allow investigative and remedial grouting works to be carried out safely within the lock chamber. The works will involve drilling and pressure grouting the lock structure to identify and seal potential leakage paths.
The restriction is necessary to maintain a stable water level during the works and to prevent boat movements from disturbing equipment, materials, grout installations, or ongoing investigations. It will also help ensure the effectiveness of the grout placement and curing, while also protecting contractors, employees, boaters, and members of the public working in and around the lock.
To minimise disruption, the lock will remain open to navigation daily between 4:00pm and 8:00am. Unrestricted passage will be available from 4:00pm on Fridays until 08:00am on Mondays.
The restriction will apply only during the contractor's working hours, allowing the works to be completed safely and efficiently while maintaining navigation opportunities outside these periods.
