Waterway Notices / Sykehouse Road Bridge

Sykehouse Lift Bridge is currently closed to navigation due to a mechanical fault with the pump that operates the bridge. The pump has been removed and sent to a specialist for inspection, and at this stage we cannot rule out that repair or remanufacture could take several months.

While the bridge is out of action, we are running assisted passages every Tuesday at 11:00am and Friday at 2:00pm, with a member of our team on hand to operate the bridge manually. 

In line with our Better Boating commitment, we will keep this notice updated as soon as we have a firmer timescale.

Sykehouse Road Bridge remains closed to boaters. The pump required to raise the bridge has failed, and the bridge will therefore remain in the lowered position until the issue is resolved.

Unfortunately, the part that was originally ordered is not currently in stock within the UK. We have now sourced and will order the required part from Germany, which means it will take longer than usual to arrive.

Once the part has been received, our M&E team will attend the site and endeavour to complete the necessary repairs and restore the bridge to full operation as soon as possible.

We will provide a further update on Friday 25 September with more information on the progress of the repairs. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience and understanding.

The broken part has now been ordered, and our M&E team will be awaiting its arrival. Once the part is received, the team will attend the site and endeavour to complete the necessary repairs and restore the bridge to full operation.

Sykehouse Road Bridge had become stuck in the raised position, preventing road traffic from passing. Our team has now lowered the bridge, allowing road traffic to pass. However, the pump required to raise the bridge has failed, and the bridge will therefore remain in the lowered position until the issue is resolved and is currently closed for passage for boaters

Our contractor is attending the site to investigate and carry out the necessary repairs.

Sykehouse Road Bridge is currently stuck in the up position, blocking road traffic.

We have our Contractor attending to the site to resolve the issue, so there may be a delays experienced whilst the issue with the bridge are being resolved.
