Contractors working on behalf of HS2 are carrying out essential works on the Longhole Viaduct over the Grand Union Canal.
Due to delays in the manufacture of a critical component, the previously advertised night-time closures of the canal and towpath on 7 and 8 September 2026 are no longer required.
The remaining closures will take place on the following dates: • 8pm on 14 September 2026 until 6am on 15 September 2026 • 8pm on 15 September 2026 until 6am on 16 September 2026 • 8pm on 21 September 2026 until 6am on 22 September 2026 • 8pm on 22 September 2026 until 6am on 23 September 2026 • 8pm on 28 September 2026 until 6am on 29 September 2026 • 8pm on 29 September 2026 until 6am on 30 September 2026
During the above periods, the canal and towpath will close at 8pm and reopen at 6am the following morning. The canal and towpath will remain open between 6am and 8pm each day.
No additional closure dates are required, as the remaining works are expected to be completed within the closures already advertised.

Contractors working on behalf of HS2 need to carry out essential works on the Longhole Viaduct over the Grand Union Canal.
Following the postponement of previously advertised works, revised dates have now been confirmed.
To allow these works to take place safely, night-time closures of both the canal and towpath are required. The canal and towpath will close at 8pm and reopen at 6am the following morning.
The closures will take place on the following dates: • 8pm on 7 September 2026 until 6am on 8 September 2026 • 8pm on 8 September 2026 until 6am on 9 September 2026 • 8pm on 14 September 2026 until 6am on 15 September 2026 • 8pm on 15 September 2026 until 6am on 16 September 2026 • 8pm on 21 September 2026 until 6am on 22 September 2026 • 8pm on 22 September 2026 until 6am on 23 September 2026 • 8pm on 28 September 2026 until 6am on 29 September 2026 • 8pm on 29 September 2026 until 6am on 30 September 2026
During the above periods, the canal and towpath will remain open between 6am and 8pm each day.
