Following further assessment of the construction works being undertaken on behalf of High Speed 2 Limited by its appointed contractors, it has now been confirmed that the canal and towpath will remain closed over the Christmas period.
Options to provide a temporary reopening of the canal during this time were explored; however, it has been determined that it will not be safe for boats to pass through the worksite while these third-party construction activities are ongoing. As a result, navigation through the affected section will remain suspended.
The towpath in the vicinity of the works will also remain closed over the Christmas period. A signed towpath diversion will remain in place.

Contractors working on behalf of High Speed 2 Limited will be building two new viaducts over the Birmingham and Warwick Junction Canal. To undertake these works safely it will be necessary to close the canal and the canal towpath. We are currently exploring whether opportunities may exist to provide temporary navigation openings during the works; however, this remains under review and cannot be guaranteed at this stage. Further updates will be provided as arrangements are confirmed.
