We have received a further update from National Grid regarding the collapsed bridge.

Unfortunately, the planned lift over the weekend could not take place due to unforeseen logistical challenges that prevented crane access to the site.

National Grid are now exploring an alternative solution that involves installing a scaffold structure within the canal. This would allow the bridge to be dismantled and lowered onto the scaffold for safe removal.

Based on this revised approach, the estimated timeframe for the full removal of the bridge is now approximately one month from today.

We will provide a further update as soon as we receive one from National Grid

National Grid are currently planning to lift the collapsed bridge over the weekend with the aim to reopen both the navigation and towpath by Monday 18th August.

We will provide an update on or before Monday 18th August in case of any unforeseen delays.

National Grid have confirmed that their current plan is to lift the collapsed bridge next week. Subject to final arrangements, they aim to reopen both the navigation and the towpath by the end of next week.

They will be working over the weekend to finalise the dates, methodology, and programme of works. We expect to receive a confirmed timeframe for reopening by Monday.

Please be advised that a National Grid cable bridge located east of Salford Junction has collapsed following a fire incident. As a result, the structure is currently obstructing both the navigation and the towpath.

We are awaiting further information and will provide an update as soon as it becomes available.
