Updates

9 September 2026 at 13:53

Since our last update, our team has submitted the required repair works and is currently seeking the funding needed to undertake the repairs to the chamber wall at Lock 60, Longcroft Towpath Side Lock on the Trent & Mersey Canal.

Due to a number of other high-priority works across the network, funding has not yet been confirmed. In the meantime, our engineering team will continue to closely monitor the lock and assess any further movement within the chamber walls to ensure the site remains safe and stable.

A further update will be provided once funding has been secured and a confirmed programme and anticipated completion date for the works are available.

Since our last update, continuous movement has been observed at Lock 60, Longcroft Towpath Side Lock on the Trent & Mersey Canal.

Our engineers have determined it is unsafe for passage through the lock. To ensure the safety of our customers, Lock 60, Longcroft Towpath Side Lock will remain closed to navigation.

We continue to carry out tests and investigations are being carried out to better understand the extent of the movement in order to plan for necessary repairs. While the works to repair the lock have been submitted, this project must be prioritised alongside other works already in our system. Due to other arising emergency works we are faced with, we will need to wait for the updated surveys to be completed before finalising a start date.

In the meantime, navigation remains open via Lock 60, Longcroft Offside Lock. We appreciate your understanding and will provide further updates as soon as more information becomes available.
