Since 2021, suspected further movement has been observed at Lock 60, Longcroft Towpath Side Lock on the Trent \\\& Mersey Canal. Our engineers have determined that the lock chamber walls continue to move inwards, making it unsafe for passage through the lock. To ensure the safety of our customers, Lock 60, Longcroft Towpath Side Lock will remain closed to navigation. Additional tests and investigations are being carried out to better understand the extent of the movement in order to plan for necessary repairs. While the works to repair the lock have been submitted, this project must be prioritised alongside other works already in our system. Although the repair works were initially projected to begin in 2024, due to other arising emergency works, we will need to wait for the updated surveys to be completed before finalising a start date. In the meantime, navigation remains open via Lock 60, Longcroft Offside Lock. We appreciate your understanding and will provide further updates as soon as more information becomes available.
