Description
Please be advised that there will be restricted passage at Lock 23, Hoo Mill Lock, on the Trent & Mersey Canal due to a partial collapse of the by-wash culvert.
Contractors have been instructed to carry out the necessary repairs, with the design and plans expected to be in place within 10-14 days.
In the interim, the Operations team will attend the site daily at 9:00 AM, 12:00 PM, and 3:00 PM to ensure the by-wash weir remains clear. Efforts will be made to manage water levels by running water through the lock, reducing the risk of further erosion.
To facilitate this, the lock will be closed daily from 3:00 PM until 9:00 AM the following morning to help reduce upstream canal levels. Passage through the lock will be available between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM each day.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation and we will provide further updates as soon as they are received.

Passage through this lock will remain between 09:00 and 15:00 each day.

4/11/2025Contractors have been working to find a temporary solution to reopen the navigation while works on the collapsed culvert is carried out, but unfortunately, the lock will not be operational this weekend, and so navigation will remain closed.
