Description
There is a large concrete obstruction behind the bottom, towpath lock gate at Double Rail Lock 31 on the Grand Union Leicester Line. The gate therefore will not open.
Narrowboats can still pass through the lock using the other gate, however widebeam boats cannot.
We are investigating the best way to have the concrete removed and we will update this notice by Wednesday 5th March or sooner if we have more information.
Updates
We have partially cleared the concrete block which was blocking the gate and widebeam boats can pass through the lock with care.Future work is required to repair the blown cill but the lock is now operational. Please check our website (https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/notices) for any other restrictions to the navigation in this area.
4/11/2025A crane boat is required to remove the concrete block. At this time the crane boat is already being used for planned essential maintenance but we will update this notice as soon as we have confirmation that it is available.
