Description
The navigation is closed between Newlay and Kirkstall lock, the intermediate top chamber gate cill has blown.
Operatives are attending site to assess works required, we will update this notice no later than 4pm Tuesday 17th December.
Updates
Works are now complete, contractors are due tomorrow to remove the scaffold and fabric dam,
To give time for water to recover we anticipate the navigation to be open by Friday 18th mid-morning, please follow instruction from staff on site.
Normal summer opening hours will then resume:

4/16/2025The Cills have now been fastened back down,
Shuttering is in place and ready for the concrete to be re-poured,
We are anticipating works to be complete and aiming to reopen the navigation Thursday, 17th April.
We will update this notice on Thursday 17th April or sooner if we have information to share.
4/11/2025The Navigation Closure remains in place until the repairs have been made,
Repair work on the cill is currently in progress. The damaged concrete has been removed, and the team is preparing to install the new materials later this week.
A further update will be shared by Friday, 11th April.
4/7/2025We have been informed that the third-party works have been completed and the scaffolding is being removed. We are now in a position to install our scaffolding on Monday, 31st March, in preparation for the dam installation on Tuesday, 1st April.
An updated notice will be provided by Friday, 4th April.
3/24/2025Unfortunately, due to third-party work on-site, we have been unable to access the work area safely.
The scaffold is positioned in a way that restricts our access. We will need to wait until their work is completed, which is scheduled for March 21st, before we can mobilise.
In the meantime, we are coordinating with the third-party contractors to explore the possibility of an earlier access date,
We will provide an update if any new information becomes available before March 21st.
3/3/2025A repair plan has now been finalised, and our operatives are scheduled to mobilise and begin work on March 3rd.
We will provide an update by Friday, March 7th, no later than 4:00 PM, at which point we expect to have a clearer understanding of the project timeline.

1/31/2025Engineers are developing a plan to repair the lifted cill, and the dam and scaffolding will be installed shortly.
An updated notice will be provided by January 30th
1/9/2025Engineers have visited the site to evaluate the necessary repairs, and have found that the concrete cap on the cill has lifted.
A dam and scaffolding will be needed, and we are currently in the process of sourcing these materials. We will provide an updated notice by January 8th, when we should have a clearer idea of the work schedule.

12/18/2024Cill has been assessed and a stoppage will be needed to carry out repairs which will be in the new year.
