Description
Culvert 63 is currently leaking which has require our local teams and contractors to install a fabric sheet over the bed of the canal and waterway wall, this has been installed to prevent further deterioration and stem the leakage.
These works requires us to close this section of our network to protect the fabric sheet from disturbance from boats passing over the top.
the area will be monitored over the weekend and a further update will be provided on Monday.
Updates
Please be advised the navigation, towpath and moorings resumes between Bridge 31 & Bridge 32, on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal after a successful repair for the leak at Culvert 63.
8/30/2024Navigation remains open until a permanent repair plan has been put in place. We ask boaters pass through with care, on tick over, whilst temporary tarpaulin sheets are in place.
Furthermore as of today we need to close the towpath between Bridge 31 & Bridge 32, as contractors will be on site to carry our repairs on the towpath on Monday 12 August. The local team have put up fencing with signage in place.
Moorings remain suspended on the towpath side of effected area between Bridge 31, New Lane Swing Bridge and Bridge 32, Crabtree Swing Bridge.
Our local team will continue to monitor the site daily for any changes, a further update will be provided when repairs have commenced.

8/9/2024Please be advised the temporary tarpaulin sheets installed continue to be successful in stopping the leak.

8/2/2024Please be advised our local team and engineers have attended site at culvert 63 this morning to carry out inspections following on from contractors applying temporary tarpaulin sheets to the Culvert over the weekend, which has been successful in stopping the leak.
Today from 4pm, navigation will resume until a permanent repair plan has been put in place. We ask boaters pass through with care, on tick over, whilst temporary tarpaulin sheets are in place.
Moorings have been suspended on the towpath side of effected area between Bridge 31, New Lane Swing Bridge and Bridge 32, Crabtree Swing Bridge.
Our local team will continue to monitor the site daily for any changes, a further update will be provided Friday 2 August.
