Description

Due to low water levels it is presently not possible to boat between locks 26 and 28.

Until water levels recover navigation is closed between these two locks.

This notice will be updated no later than 16:00hrs Monday 15th July.

Updates

The water levels have recovered and this stretch is now navigable.

8/6/2024

Water levels are continuing to improve in this stretch. At the moment it is still not in a navigable state.

We will continue to monitor it over the weekend and once the levels reach an appropriate level, we will update this notice and reopen the navigation.

8/2/2024

Further to our previous update, please be aware that this closure now extends to Lock 21 due to low water levels.

Water levels are low in Lock 21 due to a paddle having been left up. It was also found that a stick had become jammed in the head gate at Lock 22, leading to loss of water.

Currently, investigations are ongoing regarding the feed to this stretch of the canal and what can be done to improve it. We will also be monitoring the recovery of water levels and will provide an update no later than 16:00, Friday 2nd August. An update may be issued sooner if water levels recover in the meantime.

7/31/2024

Please be aware that this notice now includes Lock 25 due to low water levels there.

7/26/2024

Our Direct Services team have re-capped the cills today. We can't check if this has been successful until the water has raised in the pound.

We are leaving this overnight so the water level can hopefully recover and increase the pressure on the gates.

We will check this in the morning and update this notice.

7/25/2024

The team have done further work today. They discovered an issue with the cill on the offside and have re-capped this.

They will assess this temporary fix in the morning and see if this is adequate or if further work is required.

This notice will be updated on 25 July.

7/24/2024

Our construction team have been on site and cleared much of the debris obstructing the paddles at Lock 27 however there is an issue with the lock gate which needs further works. Therefore the pound will drained and the team will be returning tomorrow.

The stoppage will remain in effect during the investigation and until the water levels have been restored.

We will update the notice by 4pm Thursday 25th July

7/23/2024

Our team have been able to clear a lot of debris that had been blocking the paddles at lock 27. This will help, but they are still investigating to see what else is causing the problem.

The stoppage will remain in place while they investigate and until the water levels have recovered.

7/22/2024

The pound has not recovered and is not suitable for navigation.

Our team on the ground have been primed to keep
an eye on it over the weekend and will reopen the canal if the level changes.

Otherwise we will update the notice by the end of day Monday 22nd July.

7/19/2024

Operatives have attended site and water levels have still not recovered enough to resume navigation.

We will update this notice no later than Friday 4pm

7/17/2024

The water levels have not yet recovered so this stretch needs to remain closed.
