Description
Please be advised due to emergency repair works to the towpath at Lock 90 on the Rochdale Canal the towpath between Lock 89 and Lock 92 has restricted access.
Access points to re-join the canal towpath can be found at Castle Street and Whitworth Street.
An update will be provided tomorrow, Thursday 13 June
Updates
Please be advised Lock 88 continues to be fenced off either side due to a flooded towpath on the Rochdale Canal.
While our contractors continue to work on a solution to proceed with repairs, access points to re-join the canal towpath can be found at Castle Street and Whitworth Street.
A further update will be provided by Friday 06 September.
8/23/2024We are pleased to advised the towpath between Lock 89 and Lock 92 on the Rochdale Canal is now open to the public. However either side of Lock 88 continues to be fenced off due to a flooded towpath.
While our contractors continue to work on a solution to proceed with repairs, access points to re-join the canal towpath can be found at Castle Street and Whitworth Street.
A further update will be provided on the 23 August.
8/9/2024Please be advised the towpath between Lock 88 and Lock 92 on the Rochdale Canal continues to be closed while engineers and contractors continue to work on a solution to proceed with the repairs to the by-wash and ground paddle at Lock 80

8/8/2024Please be advised the towpath between Lock 88 and Lock 92 on the Rochdale Canal is closed due to a fault with the by-wash and ground paddle at Lock 80, causing the towpath beneath Oxford street and the bottom of the ramp at lock 90 being flooded.
The local team and engineers are working with local contractors to work on a solution in order to proceed with the repairs.
A further update will be provided by Thursday 8 August.
7/25/2024Please be advised the towpath between Lock 88 and Lock 92 on the Rochdale Canal is closed due to a fault with the by-wash and ground paddle at Lock 80, causing the towpath beneath Oxford street and the bottom of the ramp at lock 90 being flooded.
Further investigations will need to be carried out by the local team and engineers to work on a solution in order to proceed with the repairs.
A further update will be provided by Thursday 25 July.
Please be advised emergency repair works continue to be on going on the towpath at Lock 90 on the Rochdale Canal with restricted towpath access between Lock 89 and Lock 92. This is due to historic abandoned utilities in the towpath which need to be worked around.
Access points to re-join the canal towpath can be found at Castle Street and Whitworth Street.
An update will be provided by Friday 5 July.
