The works at Wright's bridge have been completed.

This means the navigation is no longer closed to facilitate these works.

Please note the towpath remains closed.

Unfortunately the works here are over running and we are no longer able to reduce to a restriction as planned, the navigation will need to remain closed until the 11 April 2025.

Please accept our sincere apologies for this extension, we will work with the contractor to make every effort to reduce this extension period where we can and will update further if the timescale for the work reduces.

Despite our best efforts the works to Wrights bridge and Smiths bridge need to be extended.

Whilst doing improvement works to the beam connections on Smiths bridge we had to undertake additional materials testing on the bridge. Once stripped back, the heritage beams on Wrights bridge were found to be in a much worse condition than we originally anticipated which has meant we've had to amend the works design to use new beams instead of the old ones.

Unfortunately, this has pushed the programme out by two weeks.

Whilst we will have to extend the works beyond the 14 March, we will adjust the final elements of the work to allow for safe navigation before 8:00 and after 16:45.

The full navigational closure will finish on the 14 March when it becomes a navigational restriction through to the 28 March 2025.
