Description

Don Doors are now closed due to rising river levels, this will be reviewed in the morning and the notice updated when river levels have returned to normal.

Updates

Water levels have returned to normal therefore passage is now navigable.

2/29/2024

Don Doors are now open, please be cautious if travelling as water levels have not yet recovered. This is likely to take overnight to be fully navigable.

2/28/2024

Operatives have been on site and fitted a temporary gear box, however there is an issue raising the door where efforts have subsequently caused water levels to drop.

Contractors will be on site in the morning to assess the door.

Please note that water levels should now start to recover.

We will update this notice no later than 3pm Wednesday 28th February.

2/27/2024

The Don Doors flood defence suffered a mechanical failure of the gearbox on the upstream gate on 24th January 2024 with the door stuck in the closed position. Despite best efforts to implement a temporary repair, to date this has not been possible.

A replacement gearbox has been ordered, however due to the specialist nature of this item a 6-8 week lead-time has been given for delivery. In the meantime, we continue to work on a temporary repair with a gearbox specialist and are hopeful of having a temporary solution implemented by Tuesday 27th February 2024. The new gearbox will then be planned for install at a later date.

We will provide a further update on our progress in providing a temporary repair no later than 5pm on Tuesday 27th February 2024.

2/20/2024

We are awaiting a specialised tool that will enable us to open the doors, as soon as we have confirmation when this equipment is on site we will update the notice.

2/14/2024

Contractors have been on-site, there has been issues with fitting the gearbox, therefore navigation is still closed, we will return to site tomorrow (Wednesday 14th) and an update will be given by the afternoon.

2/13/2024

Water levels are currently still too high to open Don Doors, we anticipate that levels should be reduced enough for opening in the morning.

We will update this notice no later than 1pm Tuesday.

2/12/2024

Adverse weather means contractors are unable to attend as planned and Don Doors will remain closed over the weekend, with an expected re-opening on Monday 12th February by 4pm.

An update will be provided Monday 12th February

2/8/2024

We will be opening Don Doors and anticipate this will be no later than 5pm Friday, (a further update will be given when they are open)

Additional works to the gearbox will be needed in the future, we will issue a notice when works will be scheduled.

2/7/2024

The gearbox, has had to be been sent away to a specialist for repair/replacement,

We are awaiting for this to be returned, which we are hoping will be early next week.

We will update this notice no later than Tuesday 4pm.

2/2/2024

The navigation remains closed while we await installation of the gearing mechanism.

This notice will be updated on Friday the 2nd of February.

1/29/2024

Our contractors will be attending tomorrow (26th January) to fit a new gearbox.

We will update this notice when Don Doors are open.

1/25/2024

A fault has developed with the mechanism which opens the guillotine gates, it is fixed in a closed position therefore the navigation is closed until the new part is fitted.

We will update this notice as soon as we have information to share.
