Description
Please be advised that a worsening leak, which we have been unable to resolve with water in the navigation, unfortunately means we must introduce an additional stoppage at Limpley Stoke, on the Kennet & Avon Canal. Temporary measures are already in place control the situation whilst our contractors mobilise, and we are striving for them to be on site by the end of January, 2024.
We expect the navigation to be closed for around 6 weeks, while we install dams, remove the water from the canal and effect the repairs.
Our target for completion is 15th March 2024.
We will update this notice as the arrangements and programme develop.

Updates
Although the navigation will be open to boaters, the Contractor will still be clearing the work area along this section of canal of plant and equipment for the next few days. Therefore, could boaters refrain from mooring along this stretch of canal until approximately Thursday 21st March 2024. Your cooperation in this regard would be very much appreciated.
3/15/2024We have now agreed with the contractors to keep the towpath open, whilst work is in progress please past through with care.

2/7/2024The project team is working toward a site mobilisation date of Monday 5th February 2024 and we're planning to reopen the navigation by 15th March 2024, the last day of the winter stoppage period. However, we now understand that a longer length of canal needs dewatering than originally envisaged, which unfortunately means that the towpath must be closed, for the duration of the works.
The works are starting later than the originally posted stoppage date due to the availability, at short notice, of work boats and contractors to undertake, among other tasks, a fish rescue and specialist grouting works.
We will continue to update this notice with further information as it becomes available.

1/25/2024Work continues to mobilise contractors and equipment to the Limpley Stoke site, but as this began at short notice, our anticipated start date has unfortunately been deferred by one week to Monday 29th January 2024. Customers should be aware though, that an element of uncertainty remains, around the exact date.
We will continue to update this notice with further information as it becomes available.
