We would like to inform our customers of an additional restriction at this stoppage. Upon review of the site, it has been decided for safety reasons that the towpath should be closed to prevent a fall from height.

A diversion is in place as follows:

At Lock 3 - go over the footbridge go under the railway bridge to the trackway that takes you to Warpes at Moss Lane.

At Lock 5 - Traverse over the canal bridge on the track over the railway crossing to the A59 Main Road.

The Trust is extending the scope of works at Lock 3 Rufford to include 30 metres of piling rather than the original 10 meters. The increase in scope means the Trust will not need to revisit and restrict the canal for the additional planned works in the near future. In addition to this change, the engineers have identified the benefits of extensions to the landing stage for safety reasons. This work will also be undertaken at the same time. As a consequence, The Trust will extend the works and they will now take place between the 19 February 2024 and the 15 March 2024.

The team scheduled to do this work at Lock 4, Rufford, are currently on site at Lock 3, Rufford.

The scope of the works at Lock 3 have increased from 10 metres of piles to 30 metres of piles plus backfill.

We envisage the work taking longer at Lock 3 thereby delaying the planned works at Lock 4, Rufford. We have considered deferring the second stoppage but believe its important to complete these works so we apologise to boating customers for any disruption caused.

The new closure dates for Lock 4, Moss Lock are 12 February 2024 to the 8 March 2024.

The Trust has delayed the start date of this closure due to earlier disruption to our programme brought about by the arising works at lock 69 on the Leeds & Liverpool canal.

We have made some internal changes with delivery teams to maximise the jobs delivered. This means the new dates for this closure is the 29 January 2024 through to the 23 February 2024.
