Description
Since the Trust's volunteers did work to clear vegetation and erect the fence the path has been used by more people, despite this not being a public right of way. The increased pedestrian use is causing significant safety concerns for the operating of an industrial business at the dry dock.
The Trust and our tenant worked together to investigate the safety and security concerns for their operation, as well as people using the lock gates as a footpath. The decision has been taken to permit our tenant to enclose the area they lease from us and prevent general access for members of the public.
We apologise for any inconvenience this causes but the decision is in the best interests of everyone's safety, the path is not a public right of way and enclosing the area is in line with the operation of most boatyards and industrial units.
Updates
After discussion with Worcester City Council, the Trust reiterate our advice to customers that this path is not a Public Right of Way. There are significant health & safety risks using this path with industrial activities in the vicinity and walking over a lock gate. We kindly remind members of the public to use an alternative route when crossing the basin.
