We are carrying out repair works to investigate and address a leak between the canal and an adjacent culvert. These works are necessary to protect the canal infrastructure and maintain the waterway.   To facilitate the works, a horseshoe cofferdam will be installed within the canal. Due to the restricted width of the navigation and the position of the dam, it is not safe for boats to pass the work site. Normal navigation must therefore be suspended whilst the dam remains in place.   To minimise disruption, the following assisted passage arrangements will be in place:

• Navigation will be closed from 8.00am on 17 August.
• An assisted passage will be available between 4.00pm and 5.00pm on 17 August.
• Thereafter, assisted passages will be available daily between 8.00am and 9.00am and 4.00pm and 5.00pm.
• During assisted passages, vessels will be pulled past the coffer dam by the contractor using ropes. Boat engines must be switched off whilst passing through the work area.
• Outside of these times, the navigation will remain closed to protect the works and ensure the safety of boaters and site personnel.

Whilst temporary repairs have been attempted, they are not holding sufficiently, and a more robust repair is now needed.   We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience whilst we complete these essential repairs.
