| To protect the health, safety and wellbeing of our staff and volunteers during the forecast high temperatures this afternoon, the Leeds & Liverpool Canal between Bank Newton and Gargrave will be temporarily closed to navigation from this afternoon. The canal is scheduled to reopen at 8:00am on Sunday morning.

The safety of those who work and volunteer on our waterways remains our highest priority. With temperatures expected to reach levels that increase the risk of heat-related illness, this temporary closure allows our teams to work safely while continuing to care for and maintain the canal network.

As part of our Better Boating Plan, we are committed to keeping communication open, honest and transparent with our customers, particularly when operational decisions affect your cruising plans. While we appreciate this closure may cause some inconvenience, it has been taken to ensure the safety of our people and to support the continued delivery of a safe and reliable navigation for everyone.
