Navigation remains closed.   Over the past few weeks, we have been working to recover water levels on the upper section of Sheffield & Tinsley Canal. Although levels have improved, they have now plateaued and remain below the level required to safely resume normal operation of the lock flight.   Our pumps which are our sole supply of the water to the canal are operating as expected. However, despite continued pumping, water levels are not recovering as we would normally expect.   We are therefore carrying out further investigations into known areas of leakage, while also inspecting the canal to identify any additional sources of water loss that may be affecting recovery. This will include the installation of stop planks at various points along the summit pound of the canal to monitor levels within smaller sections of the waterway and narrow down where leakage may be occurring. This will help inform the most appropriate course of action.   If you need to return to your home mooring at Tinsley or Victoria Quays, or if you need to travel downstream for an essential reason, please contact our Customer Service Team on 0303 040 4040 to discuss your circumstances. While we cannot guarantee passage, we will consider requests on a case-by-case basis where it is safe and operationally practical to do so.

The Tinsley Flight will remain closed as the water levels have not recovered enough to make the navigation safe for passage.
