Our teams are continuing to undertake repairs to restore the affected area. Since the last update, the team have filled in the voids beneath the towpath with clay pellets and resurfaced with a tarmac and chipping finish. Ground guard mats will also be installed to provide additional protection to the towpath surface.

These works are necessary to ensure the long-term stability and safety of the towpath before it can be reopened to the public.

The towpath at Lune Aqueduct on the Lancaster Canal remains closed due to a sinkhole that has developed along the towpath.

Further investigations have identified a number of voids beneath the towpath. Remedial works are therefore required, including clay infill works, reprofiling and levelling of the surface.

A ground survey of the structure has been undertaken to determine the underlying cause. Our engineers are currently awaiting the results, which will determine a full design solution and an appropriate method of repair.
