Please be advised that the completion date of these works has been extended to 26/0626.

The reason for the extension is that contractors have identified additional leaks which required urgent repair. These unforeseen works have impacted the programme, resulting in more extensive excavation works than originally anticipated.

The repairs are ongoing, with backfilling expected to commence week commencing 18/05/26, followed by reinstatement of the access steps.

Unfortunately, the access will need to remain closed for a longer period, as the third‑party contractors have identified that the gas main is deeper than originally anticipated. As a result, a temporary works design and additional excavation works are required, meaning that the access will remain closed until 15/05/26.

The access point onto the towpath from Ward Street at Jibbett Lane Bridge will be closed temporarily due to emergency gas pipe repairs.

The towpath itself and the canal will remain open during these works.

Please use the alternative access points at Millfields Bridge and Hendon Avenue to access and leave the towpath.
