The repairs have been carried out and have been completed. Lock 24 East has been repaired and has reopened. We have the volunteers working on the Marsden Flight on its designed day (Tuesday and Thursday's), so any boats booked in for 21st will be volunteer assisted up or down the flights. The volunteer team will be working with the boaters who have been waiting from before the stoppage to also assist them up or down too, if not tomorrow on Thursday depending on boat quantities. Communication shall be made with all skippers of crafts regarding their passages.
Progress of the repairs is as follows: The team have cut deeper grooves into the coping stone, so the stop planks can now be fitted. The stop planks will be placed in Monday morning enabling the team working on the repairs can enter and repair the paddle. We will obtain further information on Monday 20th April on the progression of the repairs, of which the notice will be updated with.
A site visit has been arranged for the scaffold contractor to attend to site on Wednesday 15th April. So there will be no further work able to be carried out until Wednesday. We will update the notice with any further information that comes from the outcome of the site visit or any progression of the works from Wednesday onwards on Friday 17th April, by the end of the working day.
The navigation still remains closed at this time.
We can confirm that preparations are progressing, and we are now aiming to begin the works towards the end of this week.
We will provide a further update once work is underway, including more information on timescales and a projected completion date, as soon as this becomes available.
The wood to cut the stop planks has been ordered and measurements have been taken. Once the wood arrives and has been cut to size, we will able to confirm a date for works to begin and a provide a projected completion date.
The team have attended site and to carry out the repairs to the broken paddle, stop planks need to be sourced. These need to be a specific fit tailored to the exact width of the section needed to be repaired so it may take a period of time to produce. This closure will affect skippers coming through for the Marsden flight and any Standedge Tunnel bookings, so please check dates to see if this will affect planned journeys and journeys change be changed online through your accounts or phone 03030 404040 and press the Yorkshire Northeast Option. We will update the notice as soon as we receive any further information on the progress of the repairs.
The team will be attending to Lock 24 east on Tuesday 24th March morning to start on the repairs needed. We will update the notice at the end of the day on Tuesday with the outcome of the repairs undertaken.
The lock has suffered a paddle mechism failure, operatives have attended site and established that it will need stop planks putting in place to allow this to be repaired.
