A navigation and towpath closure is required to facilitate the removal of the existing footbridge, in preparation for its replacement with a modern, curving footbridge which will open up and enhance the canal and local area. This is a government-funded, local authority delivered project. We have worked closely with the local authority to reduce the impact on navigation during construction. Originally, these works were scheduled to take place over three separate stoppages. However, they can now be completed within a single two-week stoppage, supplemented by two additional navigation restrictions. These restrictions may result in boats being held for a maximum of four hours.
