Please be advised that due to continuing drought conditions across the UK, the River Severn has dropped to lower than usual levels.
Therefore, Gloucester Lock will be operating on a restricted timetable from Wednesday 30th July, until drought conditions ease.
Locking out on every even hour (8, 10,12 midday ) and locking into the dock from the river will be on every odd hour (eg 9, 11, 1)
Please note commercial traffic will get their own slot.
All other boating traffic will be expected to share the lock to minimise the water lost to locking.
Please liaise with the lock keeper at Gloucester Lock on 01452 310832 or Upper Lode on 01684 293138 to coordinate your travel times. Further to the restrictions at Gloucester Lock, we must also do everything possible to minimise the use of water at Sharpness. Consequently, pleasure craft will be asked to share the transit through the port with ships, as much as possible.
Please contact Sharpness Pierhead on 01453 511968 to make arrangements. The team will coordinate your passage with commercial movements and offer the first possible opportunity to transit the Port. Please be aware that ship movements are prioritised and these temporary arrangements may lead to some delays. These measures are vital to maintaining the health of our waterways, ensuring they remain navigable and sustainable for everyone—now and in the future.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation. We apologise for any inconvenience caused during this period. Your support and understanding are greatly appreciated as we take essential steps to help preserve water levels in the canal.
