Works to Oddy Lock were originally being considered by our engineers and operational team due to defects causing significant water loss.  Unfortunately, since this notice was first issued, there has been no improvement in water resources. The ongoing water loss continues to threaten the navigability of the upstream sections of the canal. We will therefore now proceed with further works to repair the intermediate gates in addition to the planned repairs to the cill, head gates, and paddle frames. These works are expected to take approximately three weeks. We will provide a further update on this notice by Friday 1st August   Please note that, the Leeds section of the canal from Newlay Top Lock to Office Lock remains closed to navigation. Access through River Lock, Leeds into Granary Wharf remains open. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Works to Oddy Lock were being considered by our engineers and operational team, as defects had been noted that were causing water loss. Whilst it has remained open we have continued to monitor the condition of the head gates and have noted that their condition has deteriorated further and the water loss has been such that we have had to feed water into the upstream pound on a daily basis. This water loss is now so significant in relation to our current water resources that this defect is jeopardising the navigability of those sections of the canal upstream of it that currently remain navigable.   We will therefore act now, whilst other parts of the canal are closed and restricted, to carry out repairs to the cill, to repair the head gates and attend to the paddle frames. We estimate this will take three weeks. If, towards the end of this three weeks there is no substantial change in our water resources we will review the situation and potentially update this notice to carry out further works to the intermediate gates; if however, the water resources are substantially recovered we will reopen the navigation.   From the 23rd June 2025 the Leeds section of the canal from Newlay Top Lock to Office Lock will be closed to navigation. Access through River Lock, Leeds into Granary Wharf will remain open.
