Navigation remains closed at Lock 72 on the Rochdale Canal due to damage to the offside gate quion board and masonry. This is preventing the lock from fully equalising water levels, meaning the gates cannot be opened safely. We want to assure our customers that we have carried out a number of tests to explore whether assisted passage through the lock could be put in place. Unfortunately, the leakage is too severe, and the gates cannot be opened safely under any circumstances. Our local team is working closely with engineers to finalise a safe and effective repair method. We are currently awaiting delivery of the specialist timber required to construct a new quion board. We anticipate the closure will remain in place for a further two weeks. However, this may be extended if we experience any delays in the delivery of materials. A further update will be provided on or before Wednesday, 25 June.

This damage is stopping the lock from fully equalising water levels, which means the gates can't be opened safely. Our team visited the site today and did their best to carry out a repair, but unfortunately it wasn't successful. We're now working on a plan for a more permanent fix.
