Updates

Please be advised that the closure at Yard Lock will now be extended by one additional day. Our team are working hard to complete repairs, but unexpected issues have arisen. The frame for the top-end paddle came away from the wall and had to be rebuilt on site, which has caused a delay. Tomorrow, we'll be dewatering the lock to carry out essential work on the bottom-end gate. Navigation will reopen by 4:00 PM on Friday (23/05/25.) We will provide an update if we're able to open sooner.

5/21/2025

Due to the current stoppage at Yard Lock, there is an impact on the pound below (Locks 27 and 26.) Where possible, we kindly ask that boats turn at Aston Marina rather than continuing up into Stone.

Please note that these works will commence now on Tuesday 20th May and will finish on Thursday 22nd May

5/19/2025

Please be advised that Yard Lock (28) in Stone on the Trent & Mersey Canal will be closed to navigation for three days, from Tuesday 27th May to Thursday 29th May, to allow for urgent remedial works. The lock gates are scheduled for replacement during this year's winter stoppage programme. However, due to the ongoing dry weather, low surface water inflows, and the worsening condition of the gate - including a potential issue with the ground paddle chamber - we have been experiencing significant water loss at this location. These works aim to reduce water loss and keep the lock operational throughout the summer until the full replacement can be carried out. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding as we carry out these essential works.
