Description
Please be advised there will be a navigation restriction at Sandon Lock on the Trent & Mersey Canal on Wednesday 24th July, from 9am to 1pm.
Our Reactive Response team are going to attempt to remove an obstacle in the top paddle hole. We'll be putting stop planks in, so there will be a delay for boaters getting through. If we're able to open navigation any earlier than 1pm, we'll update this notice.
Thank you for your patience while we carry out this essential maintenance.
Updates
Please be advised a 24 hour extension is required for this closure.
Trust staff have completed works on schedule, however our Contractors have encountered issues with unblocking the paddle culvert and require a 24 hour extension to complete the necessary work.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
8/14/2024We've now received confirmation from our Contractors and we'll be closing navigation at Sandon Lock 25 on Tuesday 13th August & Wednesday 14th August.
We will be installing stop planks and draining the lock to allow contractors to do a bottom end entry into the paddle culvert. If we're able to retrieve the log and open navigation any earlier than 5pm on Wednesday 14th August, we'll update this notice.
Thank you for your patience whilst we carry out this essential repair.
8/6/2024Unfortunately, our contactors were unsuccessful in removing the blockage. There is a log that is blocking the paddle culvert. Contractors are unable to access it, as entry from the bottom end of the culvert requires the lock to be drained.
Navigation is open, but as there is only one paddle working, please expect some delays. We will be re-assessing the situation with specialist contractors, and we'll update this notice as soon as another repair plan is made.
7/30/2024We've now received an update from our Contractors, who will be attending site tomorrow (30/07/24) from 8am to 4pm, to remove the blockage. Navigation will need to be closed while the contractors are on site, but it will be back open by 4pm.
We're optimistic that we'll have the blockage cleared tomorrow. We'll be able to provide a further update as soon as we've heard back from contractors.
7/29/2024Unfortunately, the team were not successful in removing the blockage. The lock chamber is still blocked and the blockage goes back about 2 meters, so it is not possible for the team to reach that far in.
We've instructed contractors to attend next week to remove this blockage. We haven't received a specific date yet, but we'll post an update as soon as we receive this. In the meantime, please be aware the lock may be slow to fill.
